DescriptionJerry Doyle Political Cartoons (23) from World War II. Group of charcoal and ink political cartoons, circa 1933 to 1940, most measuring 15" x 17", with some slight variations, signed by the artist. The cartoons depict the ominous political climate leading up to the Second World War. Many depictions of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Adolf Hitler, and Josef Stalin.
Jerry Doyle (1898-1986) was an American political editorial cartoonist who was employed at numerous prominent Philadelphia papers, including The Philadelphia Record, The Philadelphia Daily News, and The Philadelphia Inquirer. His best known works were about the Second World War and the New Deal. Doyle was a great supporter of Roosevelt, and took a hard position against Communism and Nazism. The cartoons offered here reflect this. His early criticism of international leaders such as Mussolini, Stalin, and Hitler make his cartoons some of the first of their kind in America. Amazing historical content pertaining to pre-war America and Europe. From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.
