George and Elizabeth Custer: A Fine Pair of Large 19th Century Mixed Media Oil and Watercolor Portraits. According to Cowan's catalog for the auction from which they were purchased, these unique portraits had recently been unearthed in Monroe, Michigan. They are very well executed and most likely date from the mid-1860s, as Custer looks rather youngish and wore his hair shorter for awhile during this time. Laid down to board as made, very minor toning, and generally excellent condition. The images measure 10" x 13", matted to 14" x 17". A very nice pair of unique, period display items of Custer and his wife.
