    [Harper's Weekly] Original Civil War Sketches: Nautical Subjects. Four sketches done by artists in-the-field for publication in Harper's Weekly. 1) 8.25" x 10" watercolor & pencil sketch of the "Communipaw" moored or abandoned along the banks of a river or inlet, dated June 29, 1864. 2) 9" x 2.75" watercolor & pencil sketch of three identified ships and the Tybee Lighthouse during the Savannah Campaign. The captions include: Ft. Pulaski, ships sunk in harbor, McClellan, Flag ship and Savannah. 3) 9" x 5" watercolor & pencil sketch showing schooner with soldier on the river bank. A twelve-line caption on verso identifies the ship as the Schooner "E. Waterman", a blockade runner which ran aground. Its cargo of coffee and cigars was confiscated. The flag ship of Commodore William Rodgers claimed the prize. "Mr. C. H. Weed who took possession of her by himself some time before any one else was near, and was repeatedly fired upon by the Marines as a rebel." Three folds. 4) 9" x 4.5" watercolor of two side-wheelers, captioned on verso: "Steamer Winfield Scott Cap. Edey commanding Landing troops at Hilton Head".
