Description

Civil War-Era English Made Field Surgical Kit.

The wooden case measures approximately 8 3/4 x 4 1/4 x 1 3/4-inches. The case is fitted with brass hinges, lock plate and a brass shield escutcheon inlayed on the top of the lid. The escutcheon is crudely engraved with the name "W J Weir". The inside of the case is marked on a small inlayed bone panel "S Maw Son & Thompson London". The kit appears complete with 15 instruments including various knives or scalpels, and suturing tools, including two small glass vials filled with cat gut. Most tools are marked "M & W London".

Condition: Very good. The lid of the case won't seat properly in the locking mechanism. A few of the tools have worn and chipped handled.
