Description

Scarce Rosewood Case for 5-inch Barrel Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver
Varnished mahogany case with scalloped brass escutcheon inlaid on lid, and brass keyplate. Lining in the American style, of burgundy velvet. Space partitioned for powder flask, bullet mold, L-shaped screwdriver/nipple wrench, can of percussion caps, and for miscellaneous projectiles and cartridge packets. The rosewood cases were traditionally associated with the better grade of Colt percussion revolvers, including with engraved decorations.
Literature:
For a similar case, of rosewood, for the Model 1849 Pocket, in 5-inch configuration and with American style burgundy velvet lining, see page 90, R.L. Wilson, The Colt Engraving Book, Volume I (2000).
