    Description

    ID'd Civil War US Issue Cap Box. Very fine, sound, condition with just very minor light surface crazing and a few small flakes. Front flap with an incised line around the outer edge and pierced with three pinholes where a 1 1/4" diameter piece of insignia was attached. Interior about perfect with original wool. The name "E. Smith" is neatly carved in block letters on the inside flap. This is Edward Smith, 1st Maryland Infantry US. Smith enlisted 5/20/61 and deserted 12/18/62. During Smith's term of service the 1st Maryland was engaged at Shepherdstown, Front Royal and Winchester. Nicely ID'd Civil War cap box in fine untouched condition.
