    Description

Elaborately Carved 18th Century New York Map Powder Horn. Exquisitely engraved powder horn measuring 12" in length with original patina. From New York as the depictions on the horn all relate to New York, and dates likely to the French and Indian War period. Scenes include Fort Hunter, Fort Johnson, Lake Oneida, Lake Ontario, Lake George, two map suns, a chicken and what looks to be a butterfly, the Royal British coat of arms, Schenectady, Wood Creek, Canedy Creek, Fort Henry, Wood Creek, and more. The artisan who did this work was highly skilled. The lanyard could be a later addition, but otherwise is superb original condition.
