    Description

Frank James: Leather Gunbelt Belonging to the Notorious Outlaw. Accompanied by a 1970 notarized affidavit from one Myron Reed. Clearly quite elderly at the time, Reed avers that he and Frank James hunted rabbits together on James's farm near Fletcher, Oklahoma. "Frank used a small .22 caliber rifle," he writes, "and it was after one of their hunting trips that Frank James gave his cartridge belt, with hand-made brass buckle, to my father." The belt, 40" in length, was made to hold .22 caliber shells, and still retains six original unfired bullets. While exhibiting good indications of age and use, it remains in very pleasing display condition.

Reed reminisces that Frank and his father were good friends in Oklahoma, and that his father attended the funeral of James's mother 'who passed away early in 1911 as I recall."

A fine and righteous Frank James artifact, doubtless used many times by him, with excellent display presence.

This belt is pictured on p. 145 of Carl W. Breihan's book The Escapades of Frank and Jesse James. At the time the book was published in 1974 it was part of the R.I. Mack collection.
