    Description

Group of Civil War Artillery Related Pieces Belonging to Hilang G. Campbell, 3rd Vermont Light Artillery. Campbell enlisted 9/2/64 and mustered out 6/15/65. During his term of service the regiment was engaged at Petersburg including the mine explosion, Weldon Railroad and spent time stationed at Ft. Fisher. The group includes the following: light blue wool covered bullseye canteen. Cover with some scattered mothing / wear but 90% intact. Attached to the front is a period ink script 1 1/2" X 4" paper tag, H. G. Campbell 3d Vt. Artillery / Canteen to be returned to A. L. C. when called for." Original 1 1/8" wide linen sling showing heavy use but completely intact. Pewter spout marked "C. H. & Co. Phila." Retains what appears to be the original cork with no apparent provisions for chain on the upper sling loop. Also attached to the canteen is a red, white and blue woven cord with tassels, apparently displayed with it; about perfect condition Civil War gunner's tube pouch. Brown leather with no crazing or flaking, supple and very sound. Brass round ball finial, unmarked. Exceptional example; Red worsted wool hat cord with tassels for wear with a slouch or Hardee hat, perfect; Padded buff leather gunner's thumbstall. Perfect condition with full length leather attachment thongs; cloth powder bag for 3" Ordnance Rifle; Bormann fuze punch. Semi circular convex brass head with 4" pointed 3/8" wide steel shaft. Actually a period wood working tool that was commonly used by Civil War gunners to set the Bormann fuze, perfect untouched condition. Very nice Civil War US artillery related grouping with great ID.
