French & Indian War: Profusely-Carved Powder Horn. 12.5" powder horn carved practically over the entire surface. The central portion of the base has the British Royal Coat of Arms beneath a compass or sunburst inscribed with the year 1758.. The opposite side has a British ship beneath a view of "New York", flanked by a windmill and harbor fort. One side has the inscription "Bear always greatest love Unto thy God above. Amen." framed by flourishes. The other side has a detailed map of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers with depictions of buildings, settlements and forts along the way, including Fort Edward, Fort Stanwyx, the Royal Block House, Germanflats, Saratoga, Schenectady and Albany, to name a few. Superb condition with mellow patina. Acquired by a West Coast coin dealer from a walk-in client 40 years ago. It has not seen the light of day since. Exceptional.
