    Description

    C. War of 1812 .69 Caliber Cartridge Box of the Washington Grays of Maryland. Overall excellent sound supple condition with just some scattered crazing and minimal flaking on the underside of the box. Closure affected with sheet iron fittings on the bottom of the flap and bottom of the box. Back of the box with two belt loops and form fitted to the body. Front of the box with heavy intertwined script 2" letters "W G". Interior with wooden block bored for 24 .69 caliber cartridges, the box tacked directly to the wooden block. Both end panels decorated with stars, asterisks and cross hatched lines. Exceptional example of an early US cartridge box that could easily have seen service in the war of 1812.
