    Description

TAMMANY HALL CAST IRON MECHANICAL BANK. Retaining much of it's original paint, this bank is dated 1878 and is a spoof on the political scandal that took place in New York at Tammany Hall. The bank is 6 inches tall and still works by putting a coin in the man's hand and having flip into his coat pocket. Showing wear to the face and knees, this bank presents in good condition, no breakage. The bottom trap door has been replacedbut the screw on the back appears to be original. A good clean representation of this bank that brought noteriety to personallities like Boss Tweed.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
