Rare HUMPHREY MOBILE made by Wyandotte in the 1940s. It is one of the largest and most colorful of the vintage wind-up toys, measuring approximately 9 inches long and 8 inches tall. The toy is made completely of tin except for the chimney, which is hard plastic (and usually missing). It is complete with opening back door, steering wheel and chimney. The toy is fully functional, featuring great action as Humphrey rides along with pumping legs, waving hand and rising hat! Judging from the tires, it appears that the toy was played with little. There are light scratches, on Humphrey’s blue jacket, and a few where Humphrey is attached to the shack on wheels. Overall in very fine condition. A rare, classic tin toy that’s lots of fun. Hard to believe it is 60 years old! Please note: Due to the size and/or weight of this lot, additional shipping costs may apply.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
