    More Information:

Robert Havell, Jr. (1793-1878). Two Prints from A Collection of the Birds of Paradise.

A pair of leaves from R. Havell's Collection of the Birds of Paradise (London: [1835]), containing hand-colored engraved prints after Barraband's engravings for Levaillant's Histoire naturelle des oiseaux de paradis. Havell was the publisher and engraver of Audubon's Birds of America, and the little collection from which these prints were taken was published during the time that Audubon's work was appearing. This lot contains two leaves from the book, including: Feathers of the Emerald Birds (title page). General toning to paper, with some areas of discoloration just outside the top right corner of the platemark and just along the edge of the platemark. Chip to tip of lower left corner. [and:] The Magnificent (Plate 8). A few areas of discoloration along the edges. Residue of mounting tape to reverse. Both prints have reinforcing tape along the left side binding edge, and both have light penciled  notations. 11.25 x 17.75 inches, and 11.5 x 17.75 inches, respectively.
