The badge with finely detailed cast gold eagle grasping laurel boughs, surmounted above a rayed star with hard-fired blue enamel center field with legend in circle reading: United States/Marshal/Supreme Court/J.M. Wright. Reverse with presentation inscription reading "J.M. Wright/in appreciation/21 yrs. Devoted service/Jan 4, 1888 - Jan 4, 1909/From/Melville W. Fuller/John M. Harlan/James H. McKenney/Tiffany & C." Reverse stamped "18K."
