    Description

Print: Correct View of the Battle Near the City of New Orleans, on the Eighth of January 1815, Francisco Scacki, c. 1816, Copy Right Secured (Second State), 27.5" x 21.75", on heavy paper stock. Some light foxing, else, near fine.

This is the only engraving that has been identified as produced by Francisco Scacki. In fact, it is believed that Scacki's print is actually a pirated copy of Joseph Yeager's engraving Battle of New Orleans & Death of Major General Packenham. When originally released in 1816, Scacki's awkward style, the crudeness of the image, and lack of technical expertise did not match the quality of the Yeager engraving, and thus, failed to gain a widespread appreciation by the intended audience. There were few copies of the Scacki print known to survive.

In the intervening two centuries people have come to appreciate the folk art look of the Scacki's print, increasing its popularity and desirability.
