    From Men of Mark: A Gallery of Contemporary Portraits of Men Distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in Science, Literature, and Art, the Army, Navy, Law, Medicine, etc. with biographical sketches by Thompson Cooper, photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, and Rivington, 1881.

    Each of the photographic plates measure 8.25 x 11 inches. Each oval photographic portrait is mounted to a printed page and is accompanied by a single page biographical sketch. The backing sheets have light areas of scattered foxing but the portraits are sharp and in beautiful condition. Their uniform size and attractiveness would make them ideal candidates for framing to enhance the décor of any home, office, business or school. Portraits include Sir John Lubbock, The Right Hon. Austen Henry Layard, James Nasmyth, and Sir Henry Cole.
