Common Troupial Audubon Royal Octavo Print. Plate number 499 highlights the Common Troupial, and once again we are privy to Audubon's mastery of juxtaposition. The yellow and black tones on the bird are in stark and gorgeous contrast to the red flower set behind it. One page of text accompanies this lot, with such interesting facts as: "The sharpness of their bill, however, renders them somewhat disagreeable as pets, for in many instances they have been known to inflict severe wounds, especially on children." The print is pristine; it has been trimmed since no holes can be seen from being disbound, as is common on untrimmed versions. Light toning near edges.
