    Description

6 Antique Plates of English Pole Arms and Axes. From The British Army: Its Origin, Progress, and Equipment by Sir Sibbald David Scott, London and New York: Cassell, Petter, and Galpin, 1868. Each plate measures 5.5 by 8.85 inches. All plates are in very good condition with the usual toning to the paper and a few areas of foxing. The group consists of detailed drawings of early English pole arms and axes. Of particular note is an illustration of a ceremonial beheading axe from the late Sixteenth Century carried by the Master Gaoler of the Tower of London. The set is ideal for framing either singularly or collectively and would make a handsome addition to an office, home library or study.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
