    Description

Pair of Marquetry Inlay Wooden Boxes. 12" x 9" x 4.5" hinged box, interior tray has eight lidded compartments plus additional cubby holes. An added bonus is an 1805 Hibernia George III "ha-penny" that an accompanying note indicates was taken on an around-the-world trip by Eugene Boyle, supposedly in the early 19th century. Excellent condition. Sold together with a 10.5" x 4" x 3.25" box with serpentine sides, hinged lid with mother-of-pearl inlay and hinged front panel. Minor loss of veneer on lid, warpage that prevents the lid from laying properly in place and missing screws to one hinge.

These boxes belonged to the immediate family of Confederate provost marshal Cornelius Boyle. They have descended through multiple generations to our present consignor. This lot was consigned together with lots 43564-43569 and 43574 in this auction, as well as several Boyle family archives previously sold in Manuscripts Auction 6184 (held on October 19, 2017).

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
