    Pair of Marquetry Inlay Wooden Boxes.
    7" x 5" x 2.75" hinged box, silk & velvet lined interior with lifting tray, possibly used for cosmetics. Sold together with a domed, octagonal box with velvet lined tray. Circa late 19th Century. Slight warpage/crack on the veneer on one side, complete with key, top needs to be secured to hinge with three screws, not present. Very good condition for their age.

    These boxes belonged to the immediate family of Confederate provost marshal Cornelius Boyle. They have descended through multiple generations to our present consignor. This lot was consigned together with lots 43565-43569 and 43574 in this auction, as well as several Boyle family archives previously sold in Manuscripts Auction 6184 (held on October 19, 2017).
