    Description

Mississippi Steamboat: Large Folio Lithograph by N. Currier. 31" x 20 1/2" hand-colored, large folio lithograph published by Nathaniel Currier (precursor to Currier & Ives) in 1855. It is titled: "High Pressure Steamboat Mayflower. Capt. Joseph Brown. First Class Packet Between St. Louis and New Orleans on the Mississippi River." Six repaired border tears, none of which extend into the plate. Strong colors. Very faint discoloration from wooden backing boards and thin line of "mat burn" around the perimeter which appears part of the design and detracts hardly at all (easily matted out when framed). A colorful and graphic slice of Americana from the "print maker to the American people."
