    Description

Lot of 7 Antique Photographic Portraits of English Men of Mark. From Men of Mark: A Gallery of Contemporary Portraits of Men Distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in Science, Literature, and Art, the Army, Navy, Law, Medicine, etc. with biographical sketches by Thompson Cooper, photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, and Rivington, 1876. Each of the plates measure 8.25 x 11 inches. Each oval photographic portrait is mounted to a printed page and is accompanied by a single page biographical sketch. The backing sheets have light areas of scattered foxing but the portraits are sharp and in beautiful condition. Their uniform size and attractiveness would make them ideal candidates for framing to enhance the décor of any home, office, business or school. Portraits include the Right Honorable Cowper-Temple, Lord Lytton, Sir John Huddleston, Samuell Plimsoll, Sir Garnet Wolseley, the Bishop of London, and Lord Talbot de Malahide.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
