    Lot of 12 Vintage Plates Featuring Various California Scenes Circa 1853. From Reports of Explorations and Surveys, to Ascertain the Most Practicable and Economical Route For a Railroad From the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean, Made Under the Direction of the Secretary of War, in 1853-4, Washington: Beverley Tucker, Printer, 1856-57 [and] Report of Explorations in California for Railroad Routes, to Connect With the Routes Near the 35th and 32nd Parallels of North Latitude by Lieutenant R. S. Williamson, 1853, from a exploration and survey from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean commissioned by the War Department. Each plate measures 8.5 x 11.25 inches. These plates, each slightly hand-tinted are taken from the original government report, and feature many scenes from the 1853 expedition to California. The plates are in generally good condition with light to moderate scattered foxing, some toning and wear at the extremities. These illustrations, once framed, would make a perfect addition to any school, office or home décor.
