Johnson-Jeffries: The Famous 1910 Prize Fight at Reno, Nevada. One of the most epic heavyweight matchups in the history of boxing (and of the Old West!), the fight took place on July 4, 1910. African American boxer Jack Johnson became an international celebrity when he defeated Jeffries. James E. Pepper Whiskey issued a series of mounted mammoth photos marking the fight. One of the best is offered here, a lineup of famous boxing celebrities in attendance, including John L. Sullivan, Bob Fitzsimmons, Tom Sharkey, and Stan Ketchel. The second sign is a powerful image of the two fighters squaring off. Each measures approximately 16.5" x 12.5". These are nearly always seen with damage to the mounts, and these two are actually above average in that regard, with complete captions below the photos. The images themselves are in very good condition, showing only minor aging.

Also included with the lot is a large, display-worthy French periodical with a colorful depiction of the knockout punch: "La Victoire du Negre," in excellent condition, and measuring 12" x 17.25". A great lot for boxing and Old West collectors alike.
