    John James Audubon (1785-1851). Six Large Mammal Prints (Octavo Edition).

     

    Six hand-colored lithographs from the octavo edition The Quadrupeds of North America (New York and Philadelphia), including: American Bison or Buffalo, Plate LVI. [and:] Rocky Mountain Sheep, Plate LXXIII. [and:] Polar Bear, Plate XCI. [and:] Cinnamon Bear, Plate CXXVII. [and:] American Black Bear, Plate CXLI. [and:] Rocky Mountain Goat, Plate CXXVIII. All in very good condition, with light toning and foxing, and mounting tape to reverse. The American Bison has a very small tear along the bottom edge; Rock Mountain Sheep has a miniscule tear along the right edge, and very tiny portion of upper right and lower right corners torn away; the Polar Bear has a portion on the upper left corner torn away, repaired tear along left edge, and small tears to lower left and right corners; the Cinnamon Bear has a portion on the lower right corner torn away and small tears to lower left and upper right corners; the American Black Bear has small tears to upper right, lower left and right corners; and the Rocky Mountain Goat has very small tears to upper and lower right-hand corners. All have light penciled notations. All measure 10.5 x 6.75 inches.
