    John James Audubon (1785-1851). One Rat and Five Squirrel Prints (Octavo Edition).

    Six hand-colored lithographs from the octavo edition of The Quadrupeds of North America (New York and Philadelphia), including: Townsend's Ground Squirrel, Plate XX. [and:] Four striped Ground Squirrel, Plate XXIV. [and:] Leopard Spermophile, Plate XXXIX. [and:] Brown or Norway Rat, Plate LIV. [and:] Say's Squirrel, Plate LXXXIX. [and:] Col. Abert's Squirrel and California Grey Squirrel, Plate CLIII. The Townsend's Ground Squirrel and the Four striped Ground Squirrel were printed by Nagel & Weingaertner (New York). All in very good condition with light toning and foxing, and mounting tape to reverse. The Brown or Norway Rat has small tears along the top edge and a crease on the right side; the Col. Abert's Squirrel has a very small tear along the bottom and top, with a very small piece of the bottom left corner torn away; and Say's Squirrel has a small tear along the bottom. All have light penciled notations. All measure 10.5 x 6.75 inches.
