    Description

Historical Staffordshire: Eagle Finial Mayer Soup Tureen. This is a very handsome piece of American patriotic china, indeed. It is a soup tureen and measures 12" x 12" x 8 1/2" high (with lid in place). It is marked in two places by the maker, T. J. & J. Mayer of Dale Hall Pottery Company of Longfort, Staffordshire who were vendors at the "American Exhibition 1853". The sides are decorated with ivy or holly leaves. It has an eagle finial or knob. The eagle rests on a raised American shield with arrows and olive branches. There is some discoloration to the interior and base of the tureen. The lid is perfect. A sticker indicates it was formerly in the collection of Paul Richards.
