    George Edwards (1694-1773). Four Bird Prints From Two Sources.


    Two beautifully hand-colored engravings from A Natural History of Uncommon Birds, and of some other Rare and Undescribed Animals, Quadrupeds, Reptiles, Fishes, Insects, &c. (London: 1743-51), including: The black and white Chinese cock pheasant, with its hen, Page [Plate] 66. [and:] The dodo, and the Guiney [Guinea] pig; Le dodo, et le cochon d'Inde, Page [Plate] 295. All in very good condition and have light penciled notations. Plate 66 has small holes and small tears on the left side/binding edge, a few small tears along the bottom, and toning along the edges. Plate 295 has overall dark toning to sheet, a very small portion of the bottom left corner torn away, a small tear in the same area, and glue remnants to reverse. Plates measure 9.75 x 11.75 inches, and 8.75 x 11.25 inches, respectively.


    Two hand-colored engravings from John Wilkes' Encyclopaedia Londinensis (London: 1796-1828), including: Phasianus, Common Pheasant, Golden Pheasant, Silver Pheasant, Plate II. [and:] Phasianus, Argus Pheasant, Impeyan Pheasant, Parraka Pheasant (showing the course of the trachea), Plate III. All in good condition with toning and light penciled notations, very minor foxing. Plate II has dark tone to edges of page. Plate III has a pen mark on the bottom left. Both measure 8.5 x 10.5 inches.
