    George Edwards. Five Bird Prints. Hand-colored engravings from Edwards' A Natural History of Uncommon Birds and from Wilkes' Encyclopaedia Londinensis. All very good.

    Five Bird Prints, From Two Sources:

     

    Three exquisitely hand-colored engravings from A Natural History of Uncommon Birds, and of some other Rare and Undescribed Animals, Quadrupeds, Reptiles, Fishes, Insects, &c. (London: 1743-51), including: The long tailed green huming [humming] bird, Page [Plate] 33. [and:] The long-tail'd blak-cap [black-cap] huming [humming] bird ; The dusky and yellow swallow-tail'd butter-fly, Page [Plate] 34. [and:] The hawk headed Parrot from the East Indies, Page [Plate] 165. All in overall nice condition, with small tears and stitching holes along the binding edges; all have light penciled notations. Both hummingbird pages have glue remnants to reverse side. The green hummingbird page has a very small portion of the bottom left corner torn away, some remnants of tape near binding edge. Hawk headed parrot has overall dark tone to page, possible erasure marks to background area of paper (image not affected). All measure 9 x 11.25 inches.

     

    Two hand-colored engravings from John Wilkes' Encyclopaedia Londinensis (London: 1796-1828), including: Upupa, Yunx. [and:] Psittacus. Good condition with toning and light penciled notations. Upupa,Yunx contains faint spotting to left side of the sheet and has a pin hole on the bottom right corner. Both measure 8.5 x 10.5 inches.
