    Description

Franklin D. Roosevelt: Standing Copper Sculpture. 46" tall copper statue of FDR. He wears a long cape, clutches one lapel and leans on a cane for support. It evokes the war-time President and may be modeled on FDR as he appeared at the Yalta "Big Three" Conference. It is signed on the base "W. Reid Dick". Dick (1879-1961) was a noted British sculptor who specialized in portrait bronzes. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 1911 and served as President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors from 1933 to 1938. He was named "Sculptor in Ordinary" to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. His statue of King George V is installed opposite Parliament and his statue of FDR is in Grosvenor Square. This is a reduction of that life-size statue which was completed in 1948. It was previously owned by the Kelly Family of Philadelphia (Jack Kelly, Jr., brother of Grace) who purchased it for $1,200 in 1961 directly from the artist, according to information provided by the consignor.

Condition: Very fine with typical weathering and patination.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
