    Description

Henry Clay Reverse Painting on Glass, 7.5" x 10" overall. The nation's greatest failed presidential candidate is depicted here as a graying older gentleman in a dark blue frock coat. The name "H. Clay" is painted below an unsettling folksy portrait in which Clay's left eye appears to be drifting upward and away from his nose. The technique of this picture evokes those reverse landscapes often found on 1830s American mantle clocks. Some small verso scrapes result in paint loss and two substantial glass cracks run vertically through the painting. Still, the colors are vibrant, and the charm of the production remains undiminished.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
