    Description

Abraham Lincoln: Box Made Of Wood From The Interior Of Lincoln's Funeral Car. An amazing artifact made from the wood panels inside President Abraham Lincolns Funeral car. After its use for Lincoln's journey from Washington, DC to Springfield, Illinois for burial the car passed between the military and a couple of railroad companies before Twin City Rapid Transit Company President Thomas Lowry purchased it in 1905. Lowry intended to restore the car and put it on display for the general public. Lowry died before he could restore the car, and it was passed to the Minnesota Federation of Woman's Clubs in Minnesota. Unfortunately the car caught on fire and burned in 1911. This 9 3/4" x 6 1/2" x 5 1/4" was made in in 1899 when the car was at the Union Pacific Car Shop in Omaha, Nebraska. An old tag reads "Los Angels 3/2/1910 This Box is made from the panels inside finish of the Abraham Lincoln car, made by W.J. Attridge Union Pacific Car Shops Omaha, Neb. 1899, yours truly W.J. Attridge". On the other side of the card it reads "To W.H. Bancroft, Kindly accept an old relic of by gone days from one of your Employees, Your truly W.J. Attridge". Seems he gifted this great relic to his boss.
