    Five CDVs of Prominent Figures in the Debate on Slavery. A good set of five cartes including one of the noted abolitionist Wendell Phillips (1811-84), with tax stamp and J. W. Black, Boston imprint on verso; Edward N. Hallowell (1837-71), commander of the 54th (Colored) Massachusetts volunteers in the Civil War, with Whipple, Boston imprint and three-cent revenue stamp on verso; Oliver Otis Howard (1830-1909) Abolitionist and Union General, founder of Howard University; Chief Justice Roger B. Taney (1777-1864) who wrote the opinion in the Dred Scott Case; a dramatic portrait of a black minister and a white minister shaking hands with the printed quote "'Ye are all one in Christ Jesus'" by A. H. Clarke, Ripon with caption on verso: "An Impromptu assumed by the Chairman, at the Annual Evening meeting for the church Missionary Society, in Ripon, October 1873, as he quoted the words, 'Ye are all one in Christ Jesus.' Subsequently Photographed at the earnest request of friends. Sold for the benefit of the Rev. James Johnson's church in West Africa." A nice selection.
