Stanhope peephole below with image of Capitol building that burned down in the winter of 1897. David McMurtrie Gregg was a Union cavalry general (1833-1911) who participated in the battles of the Peninsula, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Brandy Station, Gettysburg and Petersburg. His troops acquitted themselves well against some of the top cavalry commanders of the Confederacy.
