Texian Campaigne Historical Staffordshire China: Platter in Purple. Following the tradition established in the wake of the Revolutionary War, British potters produced commemorative china for export to America that celebrated the victory achieved in the Mexican War. Specifically, the Mersey Pottery at Burslem produced a series of six views from that conflict. These "snapshots" of the war were loosely based on popular prints. They were marked "Texian Campaigne" [Texan Campaign], along with the initials of the designer, J. B. Although unidentified, one design is marked "Gen. Taylor in Texas." They were produced in eight different colors on a variety of forms, detailed in Larsen's American Historical Views on Staffordshire China published in 1939. An 11" Texian Campaigne platter in purple, Larsen 488. A fine example with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The bottom raised rim has worn away and there is some normal wear to the interior perimeter of the raised border.
