    Civil War Association: Bailey & Company Silver Presentation Pitcher to Future Civil War Surgeon. 13.5" tall silver ewer or water pitcher with floral repoussé designs. The central panel is engraved, as follows: "Presented/ to/ Dr. Edward Hartshorne/ by/ Cornelius Tiers/ as a feeble testimonial of a father's Gratitude/ for unexampled and devoted services and/ attentions rendered to his son/ December 26th 1850." Stamped "Bailey & Co. Philad." Weighs approximately 3 lbs. (1100g or 42oz). Dr. Hartshorne served as Acting Assistant Surgeon, in the field, after the Battle of Antietam and also as attending or consulting surgeon to three army hospitals in the Philadelphia area. Excellent condition.
