Description

Abraham Lincoln: Circa 1865 Life-Size Marble Bust by Pio Fedi. Marble bust of Lincoln mounted on a small pedestal, measuring 29" in height in total. This is the work of Pio Fedi (1816-1892) who studied in Rome and Florence. It was produced at the time of Lincoln's assassination while Fedi was sculpting his most famous work, "The Rape of Polyxena". The back side is inscribed: "Pio Fedi Faceva in Firenze nel 1865". Though unmistakably Lincoln, it does not seem to be modeled after any known photographs or prints of American origin. The details and execution are truly remarkable and clearly the work of a maestro. The pedestal or plinth has a brass post on which the bust rests. Outside of some normal chipping and wear where the two components meet, it is in excellent condition. Requires Third Party Shipping.
