Collection of Seven Copper Engravings by Alessandro Mochetti Depicting Scenes From the Life of Mary.

    More Information:

8" x 11". All plates are in very good condition with some scattered foxing in the margins, not affecting the illustration.

These exquisite copper engravings from La Vita Maria Santissima compiled by Bartolommeo Guidetti, Livorno: Ignazio Wagner, 1825, depict scenes from the life of Mary. Alessandro Mochetti (1760-1812) engraved 24 plates for the book based on works by noted French painter Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665). The seven engravings comprising this lot feature, among others, scenes of the shepherds receiving the news of the birth of Christ, Mary and Joseph fleeing to Egypt to flee King Herod, and four other crucial moments in the life of Mary.
