Civil War Related Folk Art Painting. Measuring 17 1/4" x 23 1/2" and overall 22" x 28" framed, oil on canvass, c. 1880's, signed "F. DaCamara" at the lower right edge. Wonderful Folk Art style painting depicting a blacksmith shop. On the roof area it reads "And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks - nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more". This is referring to the Civil War pitting the north against the south. One man brings in swords to be made into farming implements, while the blacksmith pounds them into form on his anvil. On the roof there are three white doves, likely signifying peace. Some loss at the right edge and near the peak of the shop, overall in fine condition, and very poignant painting.
