Civil War: Original Pen and Ink Drawing "Over the Corduroy Road" by Isaac Walton Taber.
This very evocative drawing shows the exertions by both men and horses moving an artillery train down a log road. The bony frames of the horses are a testament to the contribution of these animals to the war effort. A troop of cavalry rides with mud above the horses' fetlocks beside the manmade corduroy road. The drawing is 15.75" x 10.25" (sight size) and attractively matted and framed 22.5" x 16" (overall). The title of the work is in the upper left corner and the artist's signature, "Tabor", is in the lower left corner. Isaac Walton Taber, born in Bedford, Massachusetts, was one of America's foremost illustrators. He produced nearly 250 pen and ink illustrations for a project called Battles and Leaders of the Civil War. Taber's works frequently appeared in the magazines Century and St. Nicolas. Very fine.
