    Description

Carved Wood Painted 19th Century Whirligig. A carved wooden man turns a crank that activates the propeller to make the tail of the decorated vane turn. Painted on the vane is a red, white and blue shield, attached to the mechanism sitting atop a turned white painted baluster. Looking fresh but weathered, the piece including platform is 32.5" tall. Consignor purchased this amazing piece of folk art from Sotheby Park Bernet Galleries in 1972 (catalog included with the lot).
