    Description

Vintage Baseball Figural Candy Container Clothed in a circa 1910-15 baseball uniform, sporting a glove, and holding a ball, this candy container stands 11" tall. Uniformed in period garb and marked "Made in Germany" on the bottom of his shoe, the figure is made of a combination of papier-mâché and composition. With lifelike features the head removes to reveal the hidden candy treasure trove. Candy containers and early sports items are both avidly collected; combining the two fields in a single item is a unique occurrence. We have talked with seasoned candy container specialists, and none recall seeing this great item before. Seldom does a piece of this quality cross the auction block. You will search a long time to add such a significant piece to your collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
