    Description

Six Stereoviews of Blacks at Work in Georgia and Florida. A set of stereoview all by Georgia photographers depicting blacks at work in the post-bellum South. Includes an 1871 image of a man atop a small ox pulling a cart loaded with hay and cotton. The photo, by J. N. Wilson of Savannah, GA, is hand-captioned in the lower margin "15th Amendment bringing his crop to Town." Another image by the same photographer shows an elderly, bow-legged man walking with his equally elderly horse pulling a wagon. On the verso someone has hand-titled the image “Lightning Express Fla". Also of interest are two stereoviews of an apparently black-owned and operated turpentine distillery in Florida, with Wilson & Havens, Savannah imprints on the verso. Together with a street-scene from Augusta, Georgia, with black teamsters and others on their way about business. A fine group.
