    Wooden Sarcophagus Fragment
    Egypt.
    Middle Kingdom, 12th dynasty, ca. 1891-1859 B.C.
    18" x 3-3/4".
    A cedar wood veneer fragment, probably from an interior lining of a large Egyptian sarcophagus having a partial inscription from the Book of the Dead, with eleven characters painted in black, contained in a horizontal register. Perforated with several small holes for attachment. Some minor losses and tight wood splits. Areas of modern glue residue on the reverse.
