Description

Rare U.S. Model 1859 McClellan Civil War Saddle and Bridle Ensemble. Fine example of a Civil War Union army cavalry saddle, complete with rawhide covered tree, ornate original hooded stirrups, carbine boot, saddlebags and U.S. Model 1859 cavalry bit with re-leathered headstall. The saddle bears its original die-struck brass oval maker's label reading: P. Ambler & S./3/ Bridgeport, Conn., located on the left pommel, slightly obscured by leather strapping. Brass shield-shaped escutcheon on pommel marked 11 1/2" / Seat. Actually a very rare manufacturer. Overall very nice sound condition. The bedroll straps, headstall leather, Y and stirrups straps are correct, nicely done, replacements. Overall a very nice representative example, by a scarce manufacturer, of a regulation Civil War enlisted Cavalry saddle.
