1968 Shelby GT 500 KR Convertible #3732. A superbly restored original car with 31,000 original miles. Highland Green with a black top and black interior.

The car was restored, circa 1980s, with mostly the original parts of the car. Reproduction Shelby 10 spokes appear to have been added at that time. The car's body components are of matching date codes and the serial number tag is original to the car. The car has its original Cobra Jet engine with all of the correct components including the oil cooler. The car has been stored since its high caliber restoration and had oxidation to the original aluminum parts typical of an older restoration. (The car has been freshened to restore the car back to at least near full concourse level.) With very little work, this would be an excellent, top flight show car.

This highly optioned car is a rare combination. In addition to the original cobra jet engine that is standard with the KR model, the car has an automatic transmission, air conditioning, Glass rear window, tilt wheel, visibility package, and the scarce AM/FM radio, too. In addition to these options the car is equipped with the correct smog equipment including the air cleaner snorkel that is exceptionally rare on 428 Super Cobra Jet cars.

The Marti report has 11 KR convertibles built in this Green, black, and black combination but does not include the air conditioning or smog equipment which would make the car much rarer. This was the only Shelby like this that was delivered in Canada. At this time, the air conditioning appears to be factory but remains a mystery. It does not appear to be a dealer add on unit. The Car has the Home Office Reserve ordering district under Domestic Special Order (DSO) number of 8D2998.

Although not a "barn find" this car has reappeared after being out of sight for decades. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a car that has been sitting in private hands for many years. The car has been inspected and shows no accident or other history problems. The car is shown in the Shelby registry as

8T03R210348-03732. GT500KR. Shipped to Rankin Ford Sales, Ltd. (London, Ontario, CAN) 11/15/68. Letter dated 1-30-69 from Shelby Automotive applied for by Rankin Ford Sales for convertible incentive claim for two vehicles at $200.00 each for credit. Last known owner Jeffrey S. Gilbert (Los Angeles, CA).

Highland Green, Black interior, auto, and hub caps from the factory. The latest information has been provided to Shelby registrar.

This Shelby is so highly optioned that it fits the description as being "The King of the Road." Heritage will donate a portion of the hammer price to the Carroll Shelby Foundation.

Mike Demille, the consignor of this beautiful automobile, has had a love for vintage cars since he was five years old. Growing up with a collector father, who built race cars and drove a 1956 Ford pick-up around town, you could say that great cars are in his blood. Over the years Mike and his father have owned and restored their share of vintage cars. In 2003, Mike's friend, a private collector, told him about this Shelby. From the minute he laid eyes on the car he was in love. Mike said that, growing up, he never thought he would have the opportunity to own Shelby, so when the opportunity arose, he couldn't pass it up. Now, after eight years of enjoyment, Mike has decided to let another collector know the joy.

Video of Ty Pennington and the Shelby!

This event is a special auction being conducted by Heritage Auctions for an ABC TV television pilot starring
Ty Pennington and produced by Cineflix (Auction) Inc. The auction will operate differently than a typical
    Heritage auction.

      Please take note:

The auction will proceed at a significantly slower pace than a normal Heritage auction, so bidders will need to be patient and understand there may be abnormal bidding, as further indicated below. Some lots will open for bidding during the live auction at levels lower than our bidding protocol would normally dictate (i.e. the next increment over the second highest bid). In those cases our staff will place bids during the auction as proxies for the Internet high bidder, and certain absentee underbidders until the bid reaches the then current high bid at the start of the live auction. As such, if your bid is the high absentee bid, please do not bid against yourself from the floor, phone, or on Heritage Live.In all cases, the highest absentee bid wins ties over any live bid.In some cases proxies may bid up to one bid below an undisclosed reserve, but never above that amount. If a lot fails to reach a reserve, it will be recorded as a no sale, just like all Heritage auctions. All other non-conflicting terms and conditions of sale remain in full force and effect.
