Annie Oakley: One of the Most Sought-after of all Buffalo Bill's Wild West Posters. Probably fewer than ten copies are known of this colorful poster by the famed Baltimore lithographers A. Hoen & Co. We were told that this example had been stored for years, framed under glass, in a damp place, causing some of the surface paper to pull away and adhere irretrievably to the glass. Fortunately, none of the three figures of Little Miss sure Shot were affected at all. A few small scattered areas in the light background required restoration, but the principal problem was at the bottom of the poster where some lettering had to be restored. Parts of the border areas of the poster have also been restored. However, this was all accomplished very professionally, and the overall display appearance is excellent.

To our knowledge, examples have changed hands only a few times, generally in discreet private transactions. A leading Buffalo Bill and Oakley collector advises that he was recently offered one with a price tag of $70,000, but we will open the bidding on this one at what we trust is an inviting level.

    The poster measures 18" x 26", displayed most effectively in a 30" x 38" period frame.
