    Albertus Seba (1665-1736). Six Snake Prints.

    Six hand-colored engravings from John Wilkes' Encyclopaedia Londinensis (London: 1796-1828), including: Coluber: 1. The Egyptian Viper, or Adder of Africa, 2. The elegant Viper, 3. The Severus or cruel Viper, Plate V. [and:] Coluber: 1. The Berus, or Viper of Europe, 2. The Viper of Rhedi, Plate VI . [and] Coluber: The Viper. Bitis, and Cobra de Monil, Plate VII. [and:] Coluber: The Panama Viper, Plate X. [and:] Coluber: The Natrix, or Water Viper, Plate XI. [and:] Coluber: 1. The Summer-loving Viper, 2. The Pethola Viper, 3. The painted Viper, Plate XV. All are in very good condition with general toning to paper, darker towards the edges, with light foxing. Tears and chipping to at least one side on each of the prints. Very small tear on the Natrix's upper edge. All have light penciled notations and measure 8.5 x 10.5 inches, 8.5 x 10.5 inches, 8.75 x 11.5 inches, 8.75 x 11.5 inches, 8.75 x 11.5 inches and 8.5 x 10.5 inches, respectively.
