Abraham Lincoln: Large Bronze Sculpture by Gutzon Borglum with Signed Theodore Roosevelt Program. Hollow, bronze head of Lincoln measuring 18" high, 13" across and 11" deep. It is stamped on one side:" © 2009 Rushmore Borglum Historical Center". It is attached to a polished granite base measuring 15" x 12" x 5". Sold together with a 6.25" x 9" program titled: "Ceremony of the Unveiling of the Lincoln Monument Van Horn Bequest Newark, New Jersey May 30th 1911" boldly signed on the cover "Theodore Roosevelt" (partial separation at spine with minor light spotting). A transmittal envelope postmarked the very same day accompanies the program. According to newspaper accounts, 40,000 people attended this event, transferring ownership of the Borglum statue depicting Lincoln seated on a bench to the Common Council of the City of Newark. Roosevelt was Lincoln's biggest fan and declared: "The greed of conscienceless wealth must be checked... and the anarchist must be repressed. We must stand for clean politics and clean business or prove recreant to the spirit of Lincoln." Borglum's greatest work was Mt. Rushmore, completed some time later. It included the faces of Roosevelt & Lincoln, together with Washington & Jefferson.

Borglum carved two marble versions of this Lincoln bust. The largest was finished in 1908 and donated to Congress the same year by Eugene Meyer, Jr. That marble bust is over twice as high at 40 inches, and weighs some 300 pounds more than this 75 pound bronze. On display in the Capitol's Rotunda until 1979, it was moved and has a more permanent home in the floor directly below. Borglum also created a half-sized study bust in marble, and this casting was produced from an original plaster bust of that smaller study in a run of 35 to celebrate Lincoln's 200th birthday. Known collections that include one of the limited number of bronzes include the White House, the Tomb of Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois, the Chicago Historical Society, and the College of the City of New York on the nation's east coast, and the University of California, Berkeley on the west.
